e-Learning Capability Assessment

The widespread applications of e-Learning or Technology-Enhanced Learning in academic institutions have led to a huge escalation in the development of e-learning evaluation models. However, such models are focused on the evaluation of e-learning systems at the expense of providing guidelines on how to improve the current e-learning practices. In addition, the majority of these models do not undertake a holistic evaluation approach to e-learning systems. To deal with challenge, InfoTech adopts an innovative approach to assess the e-Learning capabilities in any context using the concept of “e-Learning Capability Maturity Model (eLCMM)”. The eLCMM has been a developed, reviewed and successfully applied in different firms, to assess the maturity of e-learning system capability. Our approach to assess the e-Learning Capabilities are based on the latest international standards as well, which are:

  • International Standard Organisation ISO 25010: Systems and Software Engineering – Systems and Software Quality Requirements and Evaluation (SQuaRE) — System and software quality models.
  • International Standard Organisation ISO 25012: Software Engineering – Software Product Quality Requirements and Evaluation (SQuaRE) — Data Quality Model

aspects related to the organisation, the technology and the e-learner experience.

Using our model, the overall application of any e-learning system in a particular organisation will be divided into the following four Key Process Area (KPA):

  • Product Quality: Qualities that focus on the static software properties and the system dynamic properties
  • Quality in Use: Qualities related to the system use by a specific stakeholder in a certain context
  • Data Quality: Qualities for data retained in a structured format within a computer system through its life cycle processes
  • Pedagogy Quality: Qualities that focus on learning related goals, learning and teaching processes and their assessment.

Each KPA has a list of processes associated with best practices maturity scale indicators. The final evaluation report explains the maturity of e-learning in a certain organisation using a scale of 1 – 5, associated with directions on how to improve.
